The Bharatiya Janata Party has announced Rekha Gupta as the new Chief Minister of Delhi, ending the suspense on Wednesday.

"I thank our central leadership, PM Modi, all our MLAs for this responsibility," PTI quoted Rekha Gupta.

Gupta's swearing-in ceremony will be held on Thursday - February 20, 2025, at the Ramlila Maidan.

BJP sources had already stated that the winning party would pick a female candidate for the post of CM. With this announcement, Rekha Gupta will the second female leader from BJP to become CM, the first being Sushma Swaraj, and the fourth female candidate to hold the top post in history.

Some of the key names for the post also included - Parvesh Verma, son of former CM Sahib Singh Verma, who defeated AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi seat, Shikha Roy, Vijender Gupta, and Satish Upadhyay.

On February 8, 2025, the BJP swept Delhi and won a total of 48 seats, marking their return to the capital after 27 years.

Rekha Gupta, who contested from Shalimar Bagh, won the seat with a total of 68,200 votes, defeating AAP's Bandana Kumari by a margin of 29,595 votes.
